State Capitol

The Kansas Statehouse is currently being restored to the original design. During this project, which is expected to be completed sometime in 2012, public access is limited to the east side (Jackson Street, one way street heading north), ground level, behind the stairs. (Do not go up the stairs to enter, there is no access through the second floor doors.)

There is also an underground parking lot that can be entered on 8th Street on the north side of the Capitol (corner of 8th and Harrison). You may park there for two hours for free. The clearance into the underground parking is 8 feet 2 inches.

You may also park on the street. Jackson Street is recommended. It is the one-way street heading north closest to the Public Entrance. You may park for up to one hour at a time on Jackson between 9th Street and 10th Avenue. Meters there cost approximately $1.00 per hour. You may also park for up to 10 hours at a time on Jackson between 8th and 9th Streets. Meters at this location cost approximately $.50 per hour. Street parking is free on Saturday and Sunday.

Both entrances require visitors to pass through metal detectors and have their bags searched.
